Winter is coming

Woof! It’s winter (nearly)

Well would you look at that. We’re in what the music industry calls Q4, where all the big hitting albums are released, X Factor and Strictly is on telly for YEARS and it’s well dark out. And raining. However, as I type it’s still sunny so maybe this will be the glorious Autumn everyone imagines. All that big coats and boots and crisp morning fantasy chat, when in reality it’s windy, raining like heck and pavements are a constant invitation to do your ankle in with an abundance of soggy leaves.

Yeah, REAL TALK. Deal with it.

Here’s what I’ll be doing amongst the pavement slides and sighing at the amount of layers to wear of a morning:

THURSDAY 1ST OCTOBER – FOX AUTUMN SHOWCASE – CENTRAL ST MARTINS

September girl

Am referencing The Bangles with this post, what with it being September and me being a girl. Bit obscure praps, but it’s my site so I can do what I fancy. SUCH FREEDOM. That’s the Bangles up there in case it isn’t obvious yet. Click on the pic and you can hear the track.

What I didn’t know was that the song is spelt September GURLS, even though I had the tape as a yoof. Also it sounds a bit like Moonlight Shadow doesn’t it?

ANYWAY, summer’s done one – well in honesty, it did one in late July – so here is a new month and indeed season. Here’s what I’ll be doing in a professional sense. Haha, professional!

THURSDAY 10TH – H&M STUDIO LAUNCH – REGENT ST STORE, 9AM-1PM

LOVELY new collection, of which us djs playing at the launch have been gifted some us. It’s not a bad life.

AOL SUMMER PARTY – FABRIC

Later that day / night am playing at the above. It’s for the company only, but thought I’d let you know.

FRIDAY 11TH – H&M STUDIO LAUNCH – OXFORD ST STORE, 1-5PM

Continuing the launch at the Oxford St store. Maybe I’ll wear some different clobber from the collection. Or ALL of the pieces.

SATURDAY 12TH – H&M POP UP – BRICK LANE, 2-6PM

H&M AGAIN! This time East side for the last few weeks of its pop ups. They have free coffee, lollies and cocktails for shoppers AS WELL as clothes. That’s good isn’t it? Oh and ME playing some records to soundtrack the afternoon to.

SUNDAY 13TH, 20TH & 27TH – W DOES BRUNCH – W HOTEL, 12-4PM

Lovely lovely brunch, lovely lovely W, sofas, slippers, amazing food and drinks, super staff, tv room, loadsa mirrorballs and me playing records in a fancy frock. INFO / BOOKING AND THAT HERE

TUESDAY 15TH – CARRY ON KARAOKE – LUCKY VOICE, ISLINGTON, 8-11PM

NEW! NEW! NEW! Brand new monthly night of themed karaoke cavorting and carousing!  Every month the theme will change and thus the track list will cut its cloth accordingly from the ginormous catalogue of Lucky Voice songs. For the first party on September 15th, we’ll be stepping back to the 70s and into our sequins for a night of DISCO. Hosted by ME. MORE INFO AND BOOKING HERE!

THURSDAY 17TH – RAVE KARAOKE – LUCKY VOICE BRIGHTON, 8-11PM

Taking the party to the seaside. After the MASSIVE Leeds Festival gig (it was AMAZING), can’t wait to get them raving on the Sussex coast! TICKETS / INFO HERE

SATURDAY 19TH – WEDDING

Only go if you’re invited. Could be embarrassing if not. Unless you bring a nice gift. Anyway, I’m djing.

FRIDAY 25TH – H&M OXFORD CIRCUS, 12-4PM

Shop disco!

SATURDAY 26TH – AS YET UNTITLED PARTY – BOUNCE, HOLBORN, 9.30PM-1AM

New party at the brill Bounce, a ping pong bar. My mate Zoe is amazing at ping pong. Like Monica in Friends. But not as violently competitive. Anyway, this is a new weekly party. It hasn’t got a name yet. But it will have. It’s from the people who brought you Buttoned Down Disco. I’m going to be one of the residents. I am toying with a frock made of ping pong balls. It might distract from the fact I am hopeless at ping pong. But then I’ll be playing records so I probably best concentrate on that really.

MONDAY 28TH – TELL IT LIKE IT QUIZ – SHOREDITCH HOUSE, 7PM

My trash culture quiz returns after its summer haitus. Will be testing the brains of the SDH members from the hi brow worlds of music, tv, film and more via the sidebar of shame, Heat and Take a Break mag.

Think that’s it work wise. Other than that I’ll be living la vida loca. Am not quite at Ricky Martin’s level, but it’s good to have something to aim for.

Carry on Karaoke – Lucky Voice

Starting a new night next month with the Karaoke behemoths Lucky Voice! It’s called Carry on Karaoke.

Here are some words about it:

London’s premier karaoke bar hooks up with London’s most enthusiastic karaoke fan and host – THAT’S ME KIDS – for a brand new monthly night of themed karaoke cavorting and carousing!

On Tuesday September 8th, Carry on Karaoke will bring the Lucky Voice locals out of the private booths and into the spotlight (ok, bar) to sing themselves silly from a special selection of songs for the party.

TICKETS HERE

Every month the theme will change and thus the track list will cut its cloth accordingly from the ginormous catalogue of Lucky Voice songs. For the first party on September 8th, we’ll be stepping back to the 70s and into our sequins for a night of DISCO. With timeless tracks from the dance floor dominators such as the Jackson 5, Chic, Sister Sledge and of course, the Bee Gees amongst many others, we’ll be getting Upper Street in a right shimmy.

Future months will see us wail along to Power Ballads, doing the running man in our cycling shorts for a 90s party and pitting Rock Gods against Queens of Pop for a musical battle of the sexes. The Lucky Voice dressing up box will be available to those who wish to accessorise their performance with an appropriate prop to make their musical moment MAGIC.

Not only this, but all Carry on Karaoke-ers get a post-party FREE hour in a karaoke booth to keep the party alive! To book this bonus please call 0207 354 6280 but make sure you’ve booked your ticket first!

It’s basically Stars in their Eyes meets X Factor meets MAX LOLZ. But without the criticism but definitely with booze and a massive wallop of fun. Now, that’s better than your usual Tuesday night of microwaved lasagne and phone call to your mum isn’t it?

So get your gang together, join me and let’s CARRY ON KARAOKE!

Gigzzzzzzzzzzzz

Durrrr….

It’s been a busy old time. But then I always say that. But I only speak the truth, so there we go.

So far in August have been to the Cotswolds to play at The Royal Oak’s Oakfest after Chas and Dave (I KNOW!); did the H&M Pop Up on Brick Lane again, plus the launch party with actual popstar Foxes; and of course lovely H&M Oxford Circus a couple of times.

Been to Brighton to check out Lucky Voice for Brighton Rave Karaoke. It rained, but in my heart it RAVED. Went on holiday for TWO WHOLE DAYS in Southwold with my ace family who were there for a week. Didn’t have fish and chips or ice cream! What a seaside LOSER. Then they came to London and we did loads of stuff that mainly involved food and beer as that is what my family excel at. Everyone should always play to their strengths.

Booze: Good friend of the Greenwoods

Presented Indeedy Musical Bingo again, which is always the LOLS, but was exceptionally so with a boisterously fun Wednesday crowd. Been djing at W Does Brunch every Sunday at the glorious W London and making plans with them for future brunching delights. And making plans with Lucky Voice in Islington for our forthcoming collaboration in September. More on that to follow!

Here’s what I’m up to over the next couple of weeks or so

FRIDAY 21ST AUGUST – RAZZMATAZZ, BARCELONA

Ah Razz. My beautiful home from home. Will be playing up in the Pop Bar (of COURSE) for Pop Will Save the Dayat bonkers o’clock in the morning. It’s the best. Always the best. Never not the best. I LOVE IT AND I LOVE THEM AND I LOVE BARCELONA FORVER AND EVER AMEN.

THURSDAY 27TH AUGUST – LEEDS FESTIVAL

Rave Karaoke is kicking off the Alternative Stage to get the festival off on a ragga tip and RAVING for the weekend of music mayhem. This should be ace. It’s a massive tent. Raving. GULP. I was born in Leeds, thus I have extra excitement for this!

SATURDAY 29TH & SUNDAY 30TH AUGUST – BIG WEDDING WEEKEND, SOUTHBANK CENTRE

The finale of the Southbank Centre’s beautiful Festival of Love concludes in the best way: with a gigantic mass wedding and party at the Big Wedding Weekend! I was lucky enough to be part of it last year and double lucky to be part of it again this year as the couples’ (yes, it’s plural) reception dj. Multiple couples get married on the same day and with their friends and family and wedding crashers, celebrate their unions in a colossal disco and celebration. You can see what last year’s was like by clicking here if you want. I wore a frock like a ball of meringue that lit up. This year I have another wedding themed creation lined up to get all unglamorously hot and sweaty in on this magnificent weekend of romantic raving.

EVERY SUNDAY – W DOES BRUNCH, W LONDON HOTEL

Brunch! But brunch with oh so much more, at London’s dazzling W Hotel. A laid back disco and dining delight! Food to instagram. Slippers and sofas to stretch out on and me in a daft get up to soothe you of a Sunday.

Will be back with news (sure, sure) about September and beyond!

I love you. Bye.

Busy bizzee BiZi

Check the cool street spellings.

So, it’s been a bit hectic and I haven’t updated the site, but I do quack about my goings on on twitter so you can see what in the hell I do by following me here. If you want. If you don’t then that’s equally fine. why you’re on this site though I don’t know Unless your my mum and don’t have twitter. In that case HI MUM.

Anyhoo, went to Glastonbury for the marathon gigs, they were amazing. It is amazing. I loved it and was the best of times all the time I was there. Played all manner of music and had a Glastonbury “moment” every day with a coming together of hilariously fun people in a collected love of some song or other, congas, anti-rain dances, dance OFFS, tops off, uncontrollable disco dancing and just A HECK OF A TIME. I was fuelled by coffee and chocolate and – no doubt – the druids vibes that were in abundance at the hallowed site. It truly is magical. I think I’ve been infected with hippy love. There are worse things to be infected with though tbh. Since returning everything has been ace, so the druids are clearly still at work. unless I stood too close to them funny cigarettes people had on the go. Whichevs, it was ACE. I hope I get to go back and do it all again some day. SIGH

Mid-set Glastonbury dj selfie with “concentrating face” in full effect

As soon as I got back it was all systems GO for the first Rave Karaoke at The Old Queen’s Head and it was a STORMER of a debut! We raved and sang and whooped it up in super style for a Thursday and will be back on Thursday August 8th for more of the same. You can get a ticket here

Since then I’ve been playing a few birthday parties, H&M, the marvellous W Hotel, South Place Hotel, hosted a dj battle (!!) & Indeedy Musical Bingo and recorded a show for Heat Radio. The latter has been super exciting. Radio is one of my dear loves and as Heat loves pop, celebs, gossip, silliness and general FUN it’s pretty much my ideal radio home. (To balance all this love of the sugary side of life I read the articles with all the big words at the back of the paper. Life is light and shade after all). Will let you know when I’m on air. SCREAM!

So the summer sees me off to Kendal Calling for Rave Karaoke, Leeds Festival for the very same, Southbank Centre for the Big Wedding Weekend bonanza, a gig with Chas and Dave (YES!) and loads more STUFF.

Will try to keep you up to date. But you know how unable I am to stick to that.

Anyway, here’s some things and dates for you. Hope to see you at some. Tra!

SATURDAY 18TH JULY – I’m doing a wedding! In Dalston! You can only go if you are invited though. Or the Bride or Groom. You should know this.

EVERY SUNDAYW Does BrunchW Hotel – The best brunch in swinging London town. We have a feast for body, brains, ears, mouths, eyes and legs as they get to sprawl on sofas in slippers and be served up a right treat. I soundtrack it all between 12-4pm

MONDAY 20TH JULY – Tell it Like it Quiz – The Electric – Taking my lolz-packed, trash can culture quiz over West for some brain-testing (well, kind of…) Monday night fun.

THURSDAY 23RD JULY – Heddon St Kitchen – Gordon Ramsay owns this place. Am djing at a party there. Don’t think el Gordo will be there. But you may be?

FRIDAY 24TH JULY – H&M pop up – Brick Lane – Not sure WHERE this is exactly, but I will do and will be there betwixt 3 – 7pm.

FRIDAY 31ST JULYRAVE KARAOKE AT KENDAL CALLING – SCREAM! This is going to be ACE. Kicking off their Acid House party on the Friday of it’s 10th year, Rave Karaoke will have you reaching for the lasers and singing your heart out as we pump up the jam. It’s sold out! Me and Snoop! SCREAM AGAIN!

Glasto – YO!

Glastonbury: I’m going here. It’s effing huge

So I’m going to Glastonbury. Not as a punter. As a dj. I am djing at Glastonbury.

SCREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have never ever been before in my life ever so am somewhat excited. Am there the full stretch, playing Thursday – Sunday in a variety of get ups and a suitcase full of records to suit all weathers, people and tastes. Although I’d quite like everyone to be like me, like what I do, for the sun to shine solidly and absolutely NO MUD. I don’t favour the mud. Or any dirt. Or dust. Or just general uncleanliness.

Suffice to say, am not staying on site. I like electricity and bricks and showers indoors too much. Also, I don’t own a tent and have no desire to change this. My sister loves the camping, but then she has a camper van, which elevates the outdoor sleeping factor a little although it’s just one up from sleeping in your car tbh. Like naughty husbands or a drunk perhaps.

Maybe I need to get more in touch with nature and not worry about my hair and lack of plugs sockets for straighteners or sleeping on the hard ground. Or maybe everyone else can do that bit and I’ll continue to do my bit as a whirly-gig dj at freaking GLASTONBURY!! SCREAM! AGAIN!!!!

I’m playing on William’s Green in the massive Green Bar tent, so if you’re in the area anytime betwixt 3pm – 12am I’ll be there disco dancing in spangly wellies, playing marvellous music for larking in super Somerset.

SCREAM FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME!!!

See you in the fields!

May day(s)

Me. Just hanging out.

Look it’s bloody well May. Yet one still has the need for gloves of a morning. Tights however are BANISHED.

In more musical terms, I’m doing some stuff this month. Different stuff, all of a musical ilk though. Let’s have a look shall we?

FRIDAY 8TH MAY – RAZZMATAZZ

As the UK’s politicians have a big fight / flirt whilst cobbling together some sort of government, I’ll be whizzing to Barcelona, back to my favourite place Razzmatazz, for an early morning / late night / completely normal time set (depending on your view and whether you’re Spanish / Catalan) in the Pop Bar.

Best disco ever. I love it. They’re ace. It’s hot. In every sense. It’s also bonkers. In the best sense. Info / tickets here

FRIDAY 15TH – PRIVATE PARTY

See you there if you’re invited / it’s your party. Soz if not

SATURDAY 16TH MAY – ALTERNATIVE EUROVISION

Third year hosting this amazement of cabaret wonder with some of London’s top performers representing a European / made up country, singing a song of their own from this adopted or otherwise heartland.  Warming up for the following weekend’s actual Eurovision, come join us in the spectacular speigeltent that is London Wonderground with this festival of song in crackers cabaret style. Info / tickets here

MONDAY 18TH MAY – TELL IT LIKE IT QUIZ

Shoreditch House‘s bargain basement quizzing fun, direct from my brain into yours via pictures, words, song and general silliness. Pop culture knowledge essential. Au fait with Daily Mail sidebar of shame? You could be our winner. Knowledge of actual historical facts, mathematics and classical literature? Not here. Not ever. Sorry. Top prizes on offer and poundshop treats galore. 7pm start for the members of said snazzy house.

THURSDAY 21ST MAY – MUSICAL BINGO

Music + Bingo = FUN. Joining two wondrous worlds together, this London phenomenon is interactive weekend-warming up like no other. I’ll be hosting the party at Drink Shop & Do from 8pm. It’s great fun AND there’s a sweet shop upstairs. What more could you ever want? Tickets / info all here

SATURDAY 23RD MAY – H&M OXFORD CIRCUS

Daytime discoing amongst the rails of this shopping mecca. In town? Come pop whilst you shop! 12-4pm sees me do my bit.

THURSDAY 28TH MAY – HOXTON HOTEL, SHOREDITCH

Djing as you drink, dine, dance or ALL from 8pm – 12am in this London hotel hang out. Always a favourite place to stay pre- Londfon livign days. My mum and dad like it too. They like the fact you get proper milk for your tea. These things matter! Anyway, make your weekend start sooner with a cocktail and a summer set!

EVERY SUNDAY – W HOTELW DOES BRUNCH

Where you’ll find me come sun, rain, snow, hail, wind, humidity that knackers your hair do (you get the point) from 12 – 4pm I reside in the glorious W Lounge for W Does Brunch. Sit back, sprawl out and stuff yourselves on a foodie feast, as the staff attend to your every need whilst I soundtrack all this delight, twirling around in the booth and nicking the pick n mix. Ok, that’s it I think. Hope to see you at one, some or ALL

Bye!

Bodies and brains

Hiya

I’ve got two new things happening next week. One for the brain and one for the body, hence the subject of this here post. Look:

Tuesday 11th November – Tell it Like It Quiz!

Yes a quiz! Another one! Except this one’s my very own and will be making its debut at Shoreditch House on Tuesday 11th November to see the members battle each other in a trash pop culture quiz that will see no mensa sorts running away with the crown. That’s because the questions will range from the bottom of the bargain bin to the top of the pops and one doesn’t need to have an exceptional IQ to know these answers. (Mainly cos I haven’t got one and it was me wot wrote it)

Rounds will be from the worlds of music, fashion, silver and small screen, celebrity goings on and other hi brow subjects of a similar ilk. It kicks off at 7pm, maximum six to a team and there are amazing prizes up for grabs (as well as some poundshop treats to add that discount glamma).

So come along and prove your brains in the quest to find the quizzing champions!

Friday 14th November – Dessert Island Disco

I am VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS. Here’s some scrawl I prepared earlier about it so you can get excited too (hopefully):

Beneath the Shoreditch streets on Friday 14th November, lies a destination of dreams for those who prefer the sweeter side of life.

Descending the staircase of Casa Negra into the Playroom, for one night only you will be transported to Dessert Island Disco! It’s where cake and music unite on the dance floor for one heck of a tasty treat of a night out!

This recipe for a riotous night out comes courtesy of DJ Anna Greenwood, Miss Cakehead and London Mess Chef, Jim Thomlinson, who will be providing music, show stopping sweets, a hint of madness and unadulterated pure pleasure for hedonists and hungry amongst us!

A calorie neutral night out awaits as you dance away the sugary sensations on the dance floor to a soundtrack of Friday night disco pop bangers.

Expect apple pie scented shots, candy cotton bubbles, many a disco donut and a wallop of dance floor action, to give you Friday night fun unlike any other.

So pack your bags, strap on them dancing shoes, wear your stretchiest pants and get ready for a super sugar rush on your mini break of mayhem!

FRIDAY 14TH NOVEMBER 2014

THE PLAYROOM – CASA NEGRA

54-56 Great Eastern St,

London, EC2A 3QR

Doesn’t that sound like a lot of fun? Especially if you can’t get enough of that sugar rush, musically or culinary.

Hope to see you at either or both!

Rooms With a View

I’ve been djing and hosting in some ace places the past few weeks. Shall we have a look at them? Ok!

RAZZMATAZZ

Ok, I know I’ve been here many, many times, but it is still one of my favourite places in the Universe. It’s such brilliant fun, everyone is so ace and it’s a guaranteed BANGER of a night out in this five-roomed disco mecca. It also happens to be in Barcelona, which as we know, isn’t too shabby a location. I was there at the end of July, sadly only for the night, but still was a belter of a night up in the pop bar, packed with revellers dancing until dawn. Can’t WAIT to go back.

CANNON BRIDGE ROOF GARDENS

Cannon Bridge Roof Gardens feat. Pete Fowler mid-daub

Ashamedly, I didn’t even know this place existed before I went there. It’s a glorious garden on top of an office block in the city with the most spectacular views of London and the river. Was there on a BAKING hot summer’s evening for an amazing Miss Cakehead curated event for Go Ahead, them biscuits for people who are dieting but still want biscuits. It’s a service to be honest.

Miss Cakehead – whom I have mentioned before – is an event curator, pr specialist and all round ace face. For this rooftop rave, fruit was the inspiration so alongside the drinks, food and summertime sounds from the Mariachi band, there was melon bowling (yes, melons as the bowling balls), grape crushing a la the French (socks off if you please!), banana pinantas, the excellent Pete Fowler painting a fruity scene, oh and me! Djing dressed as a pineapple. LOOK AT MY DJ BOOTH! I very nearly died with love when I saw it.

Oh and it wouldn’t have been right had there not been cake. There was cake. Lots. Check these fellas out. They are cakes. Incredible.

Cake proof!

It was such ridiculous fun and ended with a masive disco dance on the lawns as the sun went down. So. Much. FUN.

I LOVE YOU LONDON *swoon*

HOTEL CAFE ROYAL

Cor. I was asked to compere Salon Des Artistes for Black Cat Cabaret here and what a room this is! So much gold! Such opulence! Such amazing history! Such temptation to get trollied on gin and lounge around in jewels on a chaise longue looking wistful smoking dead thin fags!  I didn’t manage the latter, seeing as one has to keep some sort of professional air.

Black Cat Cabaret and Salon Des Artistes host the cream of London’s cabaret stars weekly and is a properly entertaining night out with top notch acts who can do things that us mere mortals can’t. So let them do it and be dazzled by them instead. Was a joy to host and to watch such talented types work their magic.

THE THAMES

Ok, a boat on the Thames, but the Thames all the same. This was for the Hilton Park Lane’s annual saunter down the river and I soundtracked the soiree whilst trying not to fall over. It’s quite testing of one’s balance dancing on a moving vessel, none more so in stillies. Unfortunately the weather was a bit miz, but still managed to get some shots of night time London from the river’s eye.

Slight OCD light issues, but otherwise pretty

THE SHARD

Yeah, that massive piece of glass sitting next to London Bridge piercing the sky. I played right at the top of it. Ok, not the very top, but near enough – 69th floor. GULP. It’s high enough for me to be honest, heights are not my best mate, but was incredible to be up there playing records in the sky. I took some pictures (holding on to pillars and not being able to venture too close to the floor-to-ceiling windows for fear of vertigo attack and launching myself OUT of them) and also tried out there toilets which also boast the massive windows and NO BLINDS. You basically wee on London in full view. A pervert in an office block could see you go about your business if they so desired. My dad pointed out that it’s probably one-way glass. HOW WILL WE EVER KNOW? London Bridge from up high

Toilet to the world

LONDON WONDERGROUND Oh and have been hosting The WOW Show at London Wonderground every other Wednesday since early July. It’s so much fun and such a glorious space. Last one is on September 3rd. I will miss it 🙁

W HOTEL

And of course, W Does Brunch is still serving up a weekly tasty treat of food, drinks, music, telly, slippers, sofas and lounging around reading papers and generally maxing out Sunday. It’s somewhat of a sparkly space too. Better than your average Hotel bar, but then W isn’t your average! Spangly Sundays to make you smile.

SOUTHBANK CENTRE

Finally, this weekend sees The Big Wedding Weekend at the Southbank Centre where loads of couples will be wedded on mass then have a MASSIVE party in the glorious Clore Ballroom and I’m the dj! SCREAM.

I mentioned this a while ago and I have a frock made especially for it. It’s the closest I’ll get to being the bride EVER so am not exactly going to be shy with my attire… Pictures to follow.

Saturday’s chapel of love…
